RelyLocal Wausau newsletter for July 26, 2012
Fair Season is here! The Lincoln County fair wrapped up last week and the Wisconsin Valley Fair is just around the corner. As a kid, our family was very active in 4-H; so I practically lived at the Fair that first week of August. After all those years, and working in the industry for a bit, I still have a fondness for deep fried cheese curds, carnie games, and commercial and 4-H exhibits. If you’re going to the fair, be sure to check out the RelyLocal Business Members that are exhibiting there, including Lindsey Marie Photography, Grandads.com and Exterior Professionals. Be sure to stop by the Kiwanis ice cream booth in the center of the Exhibition Building. I’ll be there all afternoon starting at 3:00pm and would love for you stop by and say hi.

Text message scam
I received alerts from both Cloverbelt Credit Union and Marathon Savings Bank concerning a text messaging scam that is making the rounds.
Customers and members are receiving a text message or phone call that is part of a scam targeting the public in general. The scammers are saying that the recipient’s debit card has been deactivated and that they need to call to reactivate the account. They are then given a phone number and instructed to enter their debit/credit card account number and other personal information.
These calls are not being made by local financial institution. If you are contacted, do not provide any information and immediately hang up. If you did provide your card information please call the customer service phone number on the back of your card so it can be blocked from transaction processing. Please also call your financial institution during our regular business hours to let them know your account was affected.
Closing Thoughts
I think I’ve mentioned the artist Jacob Sieg once before. He’s been working on an amazing project called ‘Then and Now.” Sieg takes historical photographs from communities such as Duluth, Eau Claire and Wausau and expertly merges them with contemporary images. What you get is a wonderful juxtaposition of history and progress. His art is displayed locally at the 3rd floor gallery in the First American Building, but you can also purchase postcards and prints at Hazel Home and Janke Book Store. See more at his website: ‘Then and Now Art’
