Happy Independence Day

Willow Springs Garden Wausau It’s a funny feeling when the 4th of July falls on a Wednesday. The three or four day weekend you try to stretch out becomes a more difficult proposition. But the midweek holiday does make for a nice break in the work week. We’ve started our celebrations on the weekend prior by spending the evening of July 1st, 2012 out at Willow Springs Gardens, just north of Wausau on Hwy K. Willow Springs holds an old fashioned Independence Day celebration with a classic car show, food, fun, music, and fireworks as dusk.

For years we used to trudge up to Reservoir Park to watch the Jaycees fireworks display. The park had a great family atmosphere and you could avoid the crowds at Marathon Park. But as time went on, the trees grew up and the Jaycees focused more on ground displays than aerial fireworks, so the park became less and less enticing. Willow Springs has changed all that.

Willow Springs Gardens has that similar family atmosphere. Kids running around, families spreading out blankets, and a great aerial fireworks display. Plus they have food and restrooms, which Reservoir Park didn’t have. We’ll be back again next year.

Have a safe and Happy 4th of July. Independence means a lot of different things, depending of whom you ask. I think the framers of our Nation said it best when they wrote in the Declaration of Independence:

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, —

    Simply awesome! To see this event taking place just 1/2 mile from the farm I grew up on and the photos of the barn we played in as children and the town hall we used at Christmas for plays and singing carols on stage…………that’s memories.
